What is Root Canal Treatment?
When a tooth dies off, due to tooth decay, trauma, or some other form of damage, it can become infected. Infected teeth, also known as dental abscesses, can be very painful and give rise to swellings inside and outside of the mouth.
Although the tooth can be extracted to remove the source of the infection, this leaves a gap. Often it is possible instead to treat the tooth with root canal treatment.

Consultation
Our endodontist will examine the tooth and discuss the likelihood of success of any treatment.
Root Canal Treatment
A treatment appointment is made where the root canal system of the tooth is carefully cleaned out under local anaesthetic. The cleaned tooth is then sealed to prevent infection getting back in.
Restoration
Your dentist will then restore the tooth, often with a crown, to allow you to eat normally once more.

Does root canal treatment hurt?
As with many dental procedures root canal treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic to make it comfortable.
Is root canal treatment 100% effective?
As with all medical and dental procedures success can never be guaranteed. Your endodontist will do their best to give you a likely prognosis for your case, for most cases this is upwards of 90% over ten years.
Why do I need a crown?
Teeth that have undergone root canal treatment can be more brittle than a vital tooth, a crown helps to reinforce the remaining tooth for normal function.
